For Silicon Valley Engineering Managers

How often do you as an engineering manager find yourself in situations where you could use some honest , objective professional advice from a manager or mentor who is also on the firing line? What new skills do you feel you need to acquire? Where can you find some objective insights and coaching? These are questions that the Technical Management Council (TMC) meeting program addresses. We consulted with our members and senior managers from Silicon Valley corporations and with their guidance created a new opportunity for you the engineering manager to network with peers and to grow professionally.

Working with people is a challenge! Our program directly contributes to our colleagues current needs and issues for managing in the fast paced Silicon Valley environment. We deliver attractive topics that have immediate application and persuade our members to commit a monthly calendar slot for our "club" meetings. Our get-together will generates a collegial atmosphere among professional people in a place outside of work where we share ideas and glean experienced guidance on current issues. The meetings have discussions and interchanges among our attendees.  We attract all levels of management and have stimulating interactions among attendees who really get to know each other through development of personal contacts.

The TMC is your "Engineering Management Club" where you get to know people, learn about critical issues and discuss solutions that work. Solve problems through peer discussions and, all the while, have some fun in an enjoyable atmosphere of professionals who share in the same aspirations and work requirements as you do. The Santa Clara Valley chapter acts as a forum for new ideas and best practices in our chosen discipline of engineering management as applied to people and the product development process.

The TMC audience spans many technical disciplines in our training and in our profession as managers. We are expected to be adept in the art of leading and motivating people who represent a wide range of interests and skills. This requires that we transcend the technical skills associated with product development and delivery to acquire people skills. We are called on to demonstrate technical and management competency in a very dynamic, chaotic business world. Management now operates across global space and international cultures over dispersed corporate locations.

We also recognize that mentoring and exposure to the insight of all levels of managerial requirements is an essential ingredient for ourselves and our teams that must execute to demanding criteria in today’s rapidly evolving business and technology environment.

You cannot find the information we will expose you to in books or university courses, Our response is a well thought out agenda structured around a "topics analyses" which we performed in discussion with members and selected outside consultants from local businesses. We also integrate the basic management functions into all of the discussions and presentations.
